Pontiac Breaks Ground On New Trans Center
Ground has been broken for a new Pontiac Transportation Center, to be built on the site of the one torn down in 2008. Pontiac Mayor Leon Jukowski said the facility is a boost for the city. "I think we're upgrading. I think we're getting a more modern facility, and certainly a more attractive facility," Jukowski said.
"And I think it's going to encourage more people to come down and use it, and take the train. I'm looking forward to it myself," he said.
The 4,500 square-foot facility is expected to be ready to serve rail and bus passengers starting in Summer 2011.
It'll cost $1.4 million to build, using state transportation funds from gas and other taxes specifically earmarked for non-automotive modes other than automotive.
