Police: Woman Dead, Man Hospitalized After Shots Fired On Lodge Service Drive
DETROIT (WWJ) - One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a shooting and early Monday near the Lodge Freeway and Greenfield Road in Detroit.
Detroit police officer James McDonald said the incident unfolded just south of 8 Mile, sometime after 12 a.m., when a car pulled up to another car on the Lodge Service Drive.
"She (the fatal victim) was traveling southbound on the service drive; multiple shots were fired into her car," McDonald told WWJ's Charlie Langton. "And she came to rest at this White Castle parking lot."
The woman, in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 30s — who was in the car with the woman — was also shot multiple times, McDonald said. He was hospitalized in stable condition and said to be cooperating with investigators.
There have been no arrests.
McDonald said the injured man was not able to identify the shooters or shooters and a motive is not known at this point.
No names have been released.
Meantime, Michigan State Police say they're not sure if this shooting is related to another shooting that shut down the northbound Lodge from 7 to 8 Mile Road after 2 a.m. Monday. A man is being treated at Beaumont hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg in connection with that case.
The freeway has since reopened.
