Police: "There's No Excuse For A 3-Year-Old Being Shot"
DETROIT (WWJ) - A 3-year-old girl has been upgraded to stable condition after suffering a gunshot wound Tuesday night.
The shooting happened at about 5:40 pm on the 19600 block of Cardonia Street on Detroit's east side.
Allegedly, a neighborhood dispute escalated, culminating in a single shot from a shotgun that hit the young girl.
Sgt. Eren Stephens told WWJ that the young girl was shot in the chest, arm and leg.
"Regardless of what the altercation was, there is no excuse for what happened - there is no excuse for a three-year-old being shot," said Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee.
"The child is alert and up - obviously traumatized by what has happened," said Godbee.
Police are confident that they know who fired the shotgun and will be able to apprehend the suspect.
