Detroit Police SWAT Team Surrounds Home After Bogus Report Of Shooting
DETROIT (WWJ) - There was a lot of police activity outside a home on Detroit's east side, Thursday, where a homeowner claimed he'd shot an intruder.
Dozens of police officers, a Special Response Team and a K-9 unit were on the scene, on Goddard Street near East McNichols and Dequindre, to investigate a reported home invasion with shots fired...that turned out to be nothing.
"There are no home invasion suspects inside," Detroit Police Chief James Craig told WWJ's Marie Osborne at the scene. "There's no evidence of blood or a shooting, and I'm told no evidence of a forced entry."
Craig said the man who made the 911 call will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Craig said the man turned a gun over the police and a small amount of illegal drugs were found in the home.
Craig said a false police report is a serious matter, but investigators want more information before they consider bringing charges in this case.
The man's name was not released.
