Gunman Gives Self Up In Underwear After Standoff In Northwest Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - A barricaded gunman situation in a northwest Detroit neighborhood has ended peacefully with one man under arrest and zero injuries.
The situation unfolded around 6 a.m. Friday at a home on Pembroke Avenue and Mansfield Street, near Greenfield and 8 Mile roads.
Commander Elvin Barren said officers responded to the home after getting reports of shots fired.
"It was an incident involving a boyfriend and girlfriend," Barren told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "The suspect had been drinking and an argument ensued over finances, at which time the suspect produced a shotgun, exited the home and fired two rounds. None of the rounds took effect."
After nearly an hour of police negotiations, the suspected gunman gave himself up.
The man, Campbell said, came out of the house talking on a cell phone, wearing nothing but his underwear. The man walked over to police and said, "Y'all don't have to do this," at which point he was taken into custody without further incident.
Barren said luckily, no one was injured.
"There were two children and the girlfriend inside with the perpetrator and everybody got out safely," he said.
It's unclear if the man will face any charges. An investigation is ongoing.
