Police: Stay Calm And Get Away If Caught In Line Of Fire
DETROIT (WWJ) - You can expect extra eyes on area freeways and secondary roadways across Oakland, Ingham and Livingston County.
That's because authorities continue to investigate reports of a gunman shooting up vehicles. Luckily, no injuries have been reported in the incidents that began Tuesday and continued Thursday.
Livingston County Sheriff Robert Bezotte says if you are caught in the line of fire - stay calm.
"Try to get away from the vehicle as quickly as possible, don't try to apprehend or stay with the vehicle, get away from it," said Bezotte. "If you can get a description and a plate number obviously it's advantageous for us, the best thing they can do is to get away from the vehicle for their own safety."
Bezotte says his detectives believe these shots were fired with a semi-automatic rifle but his office won't say more until ballistic results come back.
The gun-man remains at large.
As of Thursday evening, there was no word yet if these latest shots may have been coming from that same suspect vehicle — but police said it is clear that someone in the Wixom area is targeting residents, apparently at random.
Anyone who knows anything about this crime is asked to contact the Wixom Police Department at 248-624-6114 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
