Police: Speed And Alcohol Factors In Critical Motorcycle Crash
MILFORD (WWJ) - A motorcyclist from South Lyon is clinging to life after a crash Thursday night in Milford.
According to Milford police Chief Thomas Lindberg, it happened shortly before 11 p.m. on West Huron near Peters.
"The individual was most likely traveling too fast to negotiate the curve in the roadway," he told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeill.
"The motorcycle hit the curb and the driver lost control of the motorcycle, and preliminary indications are that the motorcycle and the driver flipped and slid an extended distance."
Lindberg said investigators believe the man was traveling well above the 25 mph speed limit and the victim had been drinking. He wasn't wearing a helmet.
"Not only do alcohol and driving a car don't mix, but it's exasperated with motorcycles," Lindberg said. "On a personal level, I certainly wish, for that gentleman and his family, that he'd had a helmet on. It should be a lesson for all."
Lindberg said the victim is in critical condition in a medically induced coma.
His name is not being released at this time.
