Police: Southgate Man Fatally Stabbed Elderly Mother
SOUTHGATE (WWJ) - A Southgate man has been charged in the brutal murder of his elderly mother.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged 53-year-old James Shields with premeditated murder in the stabbing death of 86-year-old Irene Shields.
Worthy said police were called to a home on Longtin Street around 8 p.m. on July 4, and upon arrival found the lifeless body Irene Shields, who had sustained multiple stab wounds.
James Shields was arrested the next day. Police aren't saying what led up to the stabbing.
Shields will remain in jail until a preliminary examination on July 20.
