Police: Southfield Man Choked Wife In Front Of Kids
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Southfield Police are holding a husband wanted for strangling his wife to death in front of their daughters.
Police said they took a 9-1-1 call from the children that their mom was being choked by their dad. When police arrived after 9:30 p.m. Monday, they found the 32-year old woman unresponsive on the floor.
She died at Providence Hospital.
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with Police Lieutenant Nick Loussia who said the daughters tried to break their father's chokehold on their mother.
"They girls actually intervened, and tried to pull their father off of their mother. When they did so he released he chokehold. unfortunately, she fell to the floor," said Loussia.
"They told us that their father left and described his vehicle. Our surveillance unit was able to locate him shortly after the incident in the city of Detroit," he said.
The man was arrested without incident and is awaiting formal charges expected to be filed later Tuesday or Wednesday.
The children, ages 8, 11 and 16, are staying with their grandmother.
Investigators believe the couple had been arguing about money. No names have been released.
