Police Situation Puts Schools On Lockdown
HARPER WOODS (WWJ) - A police situation in Harper Woods had schools on lockdown, Thursday afternoon, and residents on alert.
A witness at the scene told WWJ Newsradio 950 officers had streets blocked off around an approximately four-block residential portion of the city -- between Beaconsfield, Peerless, Lochmoore and Fleetwood.
WWJ's Violet Ikonomova spoke with Harper Woods resident Brenda McCain, shortly after 3 p.m.
"Police are everywhere; their guns are drawn; they're all behind their vehicles," McCain said. "Almost every police officer on the force is out there."
Harper Woods school officials said the police situation came at an odd time -- right when students were finishing school for the day. All schools still in session were put on lockdown as a precaution.
There was no immediate details available about the police situation itself, although school officials said it had nothing to do with students.
No injuries were reported.
