Police: Serial Bank Robber Caught In Ohio
BEDFORD TWP. (WWJ) - The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says a man suspected of multiple bank robberies in Bedford Township has been apprehended in Ohio.
Just after 10 am Tuesday, Deputy Sheriff Damon Cecil noticed a suspicious white vehicle without a license plate in Temperance. When he attempted to stop the vehicle, a pursuit ensued. Police followed the vehicle until they reached Toledo and the pursuit was called off due to the volume of traffic.
A short time later, the Toledo Fugitive Task Force located the suspect vehicle in an apartment complex near the Maumee River. Monroe County Detectives met and confirmed the vehicle was from the earlier fleeing and eluding incident.
Detectives set up surveillance on the suspect vehicle and observed the suspect running into an apartment on the second floor of the complex. When police made entry into the residence, the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
During the investigation, the suspect was positively identified as the driver of the vehicle in the earlier pursuit. Police also found critical evidence in the vehicle linking the 21-year-old Toledo man to four bank robberies in Bedford Township that date back to February this year.
The suspect is currently being held in Ohio's Lucas County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, and four counts of bank robbery. Identification of the suspect is pending extradition and arraignment to Monroe County.
