Police Seek Help Finding Man Who Struck Elderly Man In Southfield Parking Lot, Then Fled

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) Southfield police are asking for the public's help in finding a driver who hit an elderly man in a parking lot last October, then sped off.

Randall Lewis, 82 years old at the time, was left with a serious head injury.

Lewis' daughter Ann Sheehan says her dad clearly remembers what happened to him in the parking lot of the New York Bagel, around noon on October 14th.

He stopped and thought a driver was waiting for him to cross to his car. Instead, he was struck and hit his head on the pavement suffering a brain injury. He was hospitalized for seven weeks.

"Whether he will ever be able to be alone in a house again has yet to be determined, this was an 83-year-old independent person, driving, cooking his own meals, no need for any assistance for anything in life, and this has all been taken away from him," Sheehan said.

Prady and other witnesses say the driver knew he had hit someone, but quickly stopped then drove away. He's described as a young white man, 18 to 25 years old, possible driving a gold Camry with a 'C' in the license plate.

He was wearing a yarmulke.

Anyone who can identify the suspect or has any information regarding this incident is asked to call 248-796-5500.
