Police Seek Cub Scout Can Culprit

Westland Police want to find the person who's been ripping off local Cub Scouts.  The boys were out collecting bottles and cans in a neighborhood near Farmington and Merriman roads over the weekend, when they noticed that someone had already snatched the donations.

WWJ spoke with Ron Rechlin, Cubmaster for Pack 729.

"You know, this happened to us two years ago with some high school kids, where they were doing the same thing. So, it's been sort of like a double-whammy... and [the boys] were quite upset. These guy put in a lot of work," Rechlin said.

"We talked to some of the neighbors in the community and they said that they had seen a person in a white Grand Cherokee picking up the cans, and they just assumed it was a dad with the scouts," he said.

Rechlin said he understands that people are struggling in this economy but taking Cub Scout donations is unthinkable.
