Police Arrest Suspect In Holiday Party Killing

PONTIAC (WWJ) - A 46-year-old Pontiac man wanted for shooting a man at a holiday party over the weekend is behind bars. Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard says it happened at a home on Columbia, near Baldwin, after the two got into a heated argument.

Bouchard says the suspect, Kerry Holley, shot and killed 36-year-old Hardin Harris.  The Sheriff's Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested Holley on California St. in Pontiac late Sunday afternoon.

Bouchard says they see violent cases like this rise at this time of year  and his message to those who are in this kind of situation at gatherings  is just step away from it.

"To allow something so trivial to destroy two lives, to take one life and destroy the other life," said Bouchard, "is just so tragic and makes no sense and makes this time of year which should be a blessing and should be a time people look forward to now becomes a permanent reminder of a tragedy to all the families."

"It's a sad time of year for us when we see these kinds of things ... two things happen; you see escalating domestics of one kind or the other that sometimes escalate into real physical violence like this did and then you see suicidal activity."

"He actually has had criminal activity in the past, including five years for a bank robbery conviction. So obviously this is a person that needs to get taken off the streets, unfortunately, this time for good. He's clearly shown he has no regard for anyone else and their life."

Formal charges could be brought against Holley Monday.
