Police Search In Montrose For Missing Troy Man
MONTROSE (WWJ) - Continuous rain did not seem to impede a police search team as they worked to locate the body of Patrick Mikes Sr., the Troy man missing since late July.
A dozen tracking dogs, four-wheelers, GPS units and over 60 police officers are scouring a 20-square-mile area north of Montrose Thursday afternoon.
Troy Police Capt. Robert Redmond said this is where authorities believe Mikes' body was dumped by his oldest son, Patrick Mikes Jr., who now faces murder charges in the case.
"Saturday, during the day, we have about a three-hour time period that's not really accounted for what he (Patrick Mikes Jr.) was doing," said Redmond. "He left the home about 9 a.m., telling his brother he was going to look for his dad, and he disappeared … and when we then we can re-account for him was when the farmers described he was driving down their street here in Montrose."
What got the farmers' attention, said Redmond, was seeing an upscale car moving slowly down the road a number of times – a luxury car in an area most traveled by tractor and pickup truck.
Redmond said the Infinity I35, spotted by the farmer, was the same car in which Mikes' blood was found.
"I'm not going to say that we're not going to find the body ten houses away from Homewood Street in a shed in a backyard," said Redmond. "We checked everywhere, we had dogs check everything. We all know this is a shot in the dark, but it's the best shot we've got and we're gonna take it."
The Montrose Township Fire Hall was a beehive of activity on Thursday, playing the role of the staging area for the extensive search of the farmland and wooden areas.
Authorities believe Mikes Sr. was killed in his Troy basement. His sons said he left on his bike July 27 when they reported him missing two days later.
Patrick Mikes Jr. isn't talking to prosecutors as the investigation continues.
