Man Shot In Face By Stranger At Detroit Bus Stop, Walks Home
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are searching for a suspect after a 44-year-old man said he was shot in the face by a stranger at a bus stop.
According to Officer Adam Madera, the shooting happened early Monday morning in the corner of Harper and Morang.
"He was approached by an unknown individual he'd never seen before," Madera told WWJ Newsradio 950's Zahra Huber. "This individual fired one shot, striking him in the face. He was able to walk home where he had his wife bring him to the hospital, where he is listed in critical condition."
Madera said the shooter didn't say a word to the victim before firing; and any possible motive for the shooting was unclear.
"No other crime took place during the incident other than that," Madera said. "He wasn't assaulted; no pockets were gone through. As of right now it appears he was just shot."
Did slow 911 response times play a role in the man's choice to walk home with a bullet in his face? Madera said that's unclear.
"I'm not sure; I'm unaware at this time; I don't know if anyone had called 911 from the scene or if he just initially took it upon himself to walk home," Madera said.
No description has been released because the victim was in surgery and unable to talk to police. His name has not been released.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Detroit police.
