Police Search Bashara Home
GROSSE POINTE PARK (WWJ) - Grosse Pointe Park police on Wednesday searched the home of Bob Bashara, a person of interest in the strangulation of his wife, Jane.
Speaking live on WWJ Newsradio 950, Bashara's attorney, David Griem confirmed that police had obtained a warrant.
"I would believe that this search warrant is a result of their most recent negotiations with Joe Gentz," said Griem.
"I'm deeply troubled that we've got a man, Joe Gentz, who admitted to committing murder, was released by the Grosse Pointe Park Police Department ... the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office then, in an unprecedented move, the prosecutor's office goes to court to ask that an attorney be appointed for a murderer."
"This isn't the way the criminal justice system is supposed to work," he said.
"The point here is, they've done this investigation backwards. They focused on a target, and they've been out there now for a week and a half trying to find evidence only against that target," said Griem. "And, in their effort to get evidence against Bob Bashara, they make a deal with the murderer."
Griem said he has not been allowed to see the warrant and he doesn't know what exactly police are looking for.
Bashara was seen exiting the home just before noon. He drove away, by himself, in a grey SUV.

Gentz submitted himself to police for questioning Jan. 31, reportedly claiming he was there the night Jane Bashara was murdered.
WWJ's Sandra McNeil was on the scene Wednesday afternoon as Gentz, dressed in a suit, was seen once again entering the Grosse Pointe Park Department of Public Safety.
"A lot of activity down here as the alleged accomplice, Joe Gentz, ran into the station. He disappeared and then reappeared after about five minutes," McNeil reported. "He had a person drop him off in a white van, he waited for him. He ran back out and didn't talk to reporters."
The body of Jane Bashara was found in the back of her Mercedes-Benz SUV parked in an alley at Pinwood and Arnott in Detroit on Jan. 25. Her husband reported her missing the night before.
An autopsy showed that a 56-year-old mother of two had extensive bruising to her upper body, a crushed windpipe and missing fingernails.
