Police Review Video In Detroit-Windsor Tunnel Bomb Scare
WINDSOR (WWJ) - Surveillance video from a Windsor, Ontario coffee shop is being reviewed to see if it will lead to a suspect who phoned in a bomb threat that shut down the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel for hours on Thursday.
No explosive device was found.
Windsor police believe the call originated from one of two phone booths on Goyeau Street in Windsor near a Tim Horton's that has security cameras.
"We're certainly hopeful that we may be able to find something -- often times this is the case," said As you know, in today's society you can't go many places without being captured on video," said Windsor Police Sergeant Matthew D'Astee.
"We're definitely looking at that angle in this investigation," he added. "We're also asking the public for any assistance . If anybody saw anybody in the vicinity of these phone booths yesterday around lunchtime or shortly after lunchtime to certainly give us a call."
D'Asti said police are also checking the phones for fingerprints.
If someone is caught, they could face charges of making a threat and public mischief.
D'Asti doesn't know how much the false alarm cost in terms of police agencies from both sides of the border investigating the threat and interrupted business.
He said the culprit could be ordered to pay restitution if convicted.
