Police Rescue Man From Burning Car, Arrest Him
GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ/AP) - Police in Grand Rapids rescued a man who was sleeping in a burning car and then arrested him for drunken driving.
The Grand Rapids Press reports the man fell asleep in the parked car with his foot on the accelerator before the fire started Thursday morning.
Police say the revving engine apparently overheated, leading to the blaze.
The newspaper reports Officer Eric Hornbacher was responding to a report of a disturbance when he pulled the man from the burning car.
Lt. Barry Bryant said the quick action saved the driver's life.
