Police Raid Turns Up Drugs, Python, Alligator In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A man is facing charges after a police raid found a kilogram of cocaine, several thousand dollars in cash, two pit bulls, a yellow python and a small alligator in a Detroit home.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office said deputies and federal agents made the discoveries Friday morning after executing a search warrant on a house in the 700 block of Sloan in southwest Detroit.
Dozens of pairs of gym shoes, small appliances, hardware tools, three motorcycle scooters also were recovered. Police believe the items were stolen and said the recovered vehicles were in various stages of being stripped. Suspected marijuana and heroin were also found inside the house.
Officers had to contact the Michigan Humane Society to handle animals, none of which were harmed during the execution of the warrant.
The animals have been turned over to the Michigan Humane Society.
Police said the man suspected of running this alleged criminal organization, whose name was not released, has seven prior felony convictions on drug and gun charges.
"We've been able to take someone with a long criminal history off the street. This person was a one-stop felony shop. Imagine the terror he inflicted on all the hard working people in that neighborhood," Sheriff Benny Napoleon said in a statement. "I will continue to do all I can to improve the quality of life for our citizens, it won't stop here."
The U.S. Attorney's office is reviewing the case. In addition to the arrest, a parolee was caught on the premises with several others ticketed for loitering.
