Police: No Signs Of Foul Play After 9-Year-Old Boy's Body Found In Lake
DAVISON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- Details are emerging in the case of a missing 9-year-old boy whose body was found in a Flint-area lake on Friday.
Authorities say an autopsy on the body that is believed to be Omarion Humphrey found no signs of trauma or foul play.
Davison Township police chief Rick Freeman said Saturday that the body likely is Humphrey, which was found in Lake Callis shortly after he disappeared on July 4.
"The autopsy showed that it is very likely Omarion was in the lake from the very first day he went missing," Freeman said.
Omarion — who had severe autism and answered to the nickname "Mars" — disappeared from a gathering at Lake Callis Recreation Area in Genesee County, near Flint, on July 4. He was the subject of an AMBER Alert over the holiday weekend.
"Cumulatively, we have over 10,000 man hours in foot searches, and including those dive teams out there that dove meticulously over and over again," Freeman said. "Everyone feared one possibility from the beginning -- this was a proverbial needle in a haystack."
Omarion had been with a foster family when he disappeared. Police say there could be charges filed in the future, but nothing is certain.
"Neglect is ultimately going to be defined by the prosecutor's office, because normally there are no black and white levels set in the law," Freeman said. "But there are certainly expectations we have of parents and their children."
According to reports, Omarion and his siblings were removed from their home nearly five months before he went missing, due to poor living conditions and neglect concerns.
