Police Need Help Identifying Suspects In Target iPhone Fraud Case [PHOTOS]
MACOMB TWP. (WWJ) - Police are hoping the public can help identify three suspects who are fraudulently acquiring iPhones from Target stores in the metro Detroit area.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office said their investigation unfolded late last week when they were called to the Target store on Hall Road in Macomb Township for a fraud report.
The store's loss prevention officers told police that on Dec. 9, three men came into the store twice, within a matter of minutes, and on each visit they inquired about the purchase of iPhones. After speaking with the clerk, the suspects produced what later turned out to be fraudulent identification, and purchased two iPhones with a value of $1,500 which were added to an existing cellular phone contract.
According to police, the account holder on the contract used by the suspect resides in Baltimore, Maryland and he reported to authorities there that he is a victim of identity theft.
Store officials were able to review security video and extract still photographs of the three suspects in this crime, along with the vehicle they were driving -- a silver 2000 Oldsmobile minivan.
Police say the same suspects made attempts to purchase phones from other Target stores in Troy, Southfield and Warren.
