Police: Man Who Raped CMU Student Used BB Gun
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say the man who abducted and raped a Central Michigan University student used a BB gun.
The Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant reported Friday the gun was found with 30-year-old Eric Ramsey after he was killed early Thursday by a Crawford County sheriff's deputy.
The abduction happened Wednesday on the Mount Pleasant campus about 120 miles northwest of Detroit.
Michigan State Police Lt. Derrick Carroll says the gun was made to look like a 45-caliber weapon. He says there was no way to know it was a BB gun.
Sheriff's officials said Ramsey abducted the young woman in her own vehicle and took her to a home off campus where she was bound and raped.
She later jumped from the moving SUV after Ramsey said he planned to kill her. She ran to a nearby home and, while she called 911, Ramsey set the house on fire.
While trying to escape arrest in a stolen sanitation vehicle, the following day, Ramsey found time to sign off via social media. Moments before his death, Ramsey wrote on his Facebook page the he was, "about to be shot, peace."
