Police: Stroke Victim Strangles 64-Year-Old Caregiver
FRENCHTOWN TWP. (WWJ) - The Monroe County Sheriff's Department is investigating the strangulation death of a 64-year-old woman in Frenchtown Township. Police say she was the primary caregiver of the man who allegedly killed her.
Investigators say Nancy Lake was at her ex-husband's house on Meadow Drive, west of I-75, when the two began arguing Wednesday afternoon. At some point during the argument, police say the man choked Lake to death and then called authorities for medical assistance.
When deputies arrived, they found Lake's body and took the man into custody.
One of the man's neighbor told Fox 2 News there have been "issues" with the suspect for quite some time.
"He had a stroke a few years ago and since that stroke, he has not been ok. In about August, he had a shotgun that he was pointing across the street, shooting at a few houses. They should have done more for him, because if he was that sick he should have been somewhere else other than home," she said.
The suspect, whose name is being withheld pending arraignment, is in the Monroe County Jail and faces an open murder charge.
