Police: Man Slain In Texas May Have Michigan Ties

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are seeking help identifying a homeless man found murdered in Texas who may have family in Michigan.

His body was found last month in a landfill in Fort Stockton, Texas, about 250 miles northwest of San Antonio.

WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with Jake Burson with the Texas Rangers investigative division.

"All we know is that he's a homeless man with possible ties to Michigan. That was some statements he made prior to his murder, that he was trying to get back home to family in Michigan. We don't know the city or anything other than that," said Burson.

Burson said that information came from the suspect in the case, a man in his early 20's, who has confessed.

"When they were interacting prior to his murder, this gentleman was telling him that he had family from Michigan, that he hadn't been there in several years, that he was trying to work his way back to Michigan," he said.

Police say the man, in his 60's or older, is between 5 feet 4 and 5 feet 8, and had a partial prosthetic left leg. A photo of him from security video at a convenience store is seen above.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Texas Rangers at 432-336-3414 or Fort Stockton police at 432-336-4600.
