Police Making Traffic Stop End Up In Shootout
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police making a traffic stop Thursday night on the city's northwest side ended up in a shootout.
Sergeant Eren Stephens said police were in the process of completing a routine traffic stop outside of a diner near Livernois at Clements, when the officers heard gunshots.
The police then encountered a man with a gun and ordered him to drop the weapon. Instead of giving up his firearm, the man started shooting at police. Sgt. Stephens said police returned fire, hitting the man. After being wounded, the suspect tried to hide his gun, but police later retrieved it.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment. None of the officers involved in the shooting were hurt.
