Police Investigate Shooting At Southfield Apartment Complex
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Police in Southfield are investigating a shooting at an apartment complex Tuesday morning.
WWJ's Vickie Thomas reports the shooting took place at the Pointe O Woods Apartment complex on 12 Mile Road near Telegraph.
Southfield Police said around 3:25 a.m. they responded to a report of a suspect attempting to steal a vehicle or parts off a vehicle and that shots were heard.
Reportedly, an off-duty Detroit police officer heard something outside the apartments, saw the suspect and fired shots.
When officers arrived, they located two subjects who allegedly fired shots at the suspect. Officers also say they located a suspect hiding inside a vehicle who was suffering from a gunshot wound. That suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Justin Ray, who was visiting his mother, said he heard as many as ten gunshots.
"At first I couldn't believe it," said Ray. "I saw this car that was on four bricks and I was like, wow, I mean this is happening out here, my mother stays out here, and then that's my friend's car that the perpetrator tried to steal a tire and I guess the consequences caught up with him and he paid for it."
The two subjects who allegedly fired shots are being interviewed by Southfield Police Investigators.
Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to call the Southfield Police Department at 248-796-5500.
