Police Investigate Robbery At Detroit Drug Store
DETROIT (WWJ) - Thieves were on a mission in northwest Detroit Thursday morning when they broke into a Walgreens Pharmacy.
The break-in happened the drug store located at the corner of Evergreen Avenue and Plymouth Road, just south of I-96.
Reporting live from the scene, WWJ's Mike Campbell said it was something like he's never seen before.
"There's an outside gate that rolls down from the top of the sliding doors, that gate is lifted up, the sliding doors are pried apart, and then there's a second internal gate that's also been cut open, and apparently there's been someone inside," he said.
When Campbell arrived on the scene, police were no where in sight and the store was left wide open, vulnerable to additional robberies.
When contacted for comment, Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens said police had already been to the scene, cleared it, recorded the report and left the rest up to store employees.
About a half hour later, a police cruiser returned to the crime scene.
Police haven't released a description of the suspect, but are apparently reviewing footage from the store's security camera.
An investigation is ongoing.
