Police Investigate Death Of Baby Found Not Breathing
WESTLAND (WWJ) - Police in Westland continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a 2-month-old boy.
Police and fire rescue personnel were dispatched Monday morning to a home in the Westland Meadows mobile home park, near Merriman and Van Born roads on a call of a child not breathing.
The baby was transported to an area hospital but later died. Detectives subsequently removed two other children from the home, placing them in protective custody.
"Our detectives were sent to the scene as this appears to be a suspicious death," said Westland Police Lt. Mike Matich. "And to err on the side of caution, we decided to place the other two children with the State."
He said the children's parents are "cooperating" as the investigations continues.
"We have people out and about right now, investigating different aspects of this case," said Matich, addeding that they will be working with the prosecutor's office to determine what charges may be filed.
No arrests have been made.
