Police Investigate Bomb Threat At Hamtramck High School; Students, Staff Sent Home
HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) - Students and staff at Hamtramck High School have been dismissed for the day because the school was the apparent target of a bomb threat.
Officials say someone phoned in the threat around 8:57 a.m. Wednesday before classes began for the day. Classes were already expected to start late for unrelated reasons.
"Hamtramck police received a phone call saying there's a bomb at Hamtramck High School," Superintendent Thomas Niczay told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "We evacuated the building. We took the students and staff into the next building, the community center, we informed what was going on and we dismissed everybody."
Other details about the threat weren't immediately released.
Police are now investigating at the school, located on Charest Street near Caniff Street and Joseph Campau Avenue. Officers are searching the building and surrounding property with K-9 units.
Investigators say only the high school is affected by the threat. No injuries have been reported.
Classes are expected to resume as normal on Thursday.
