Police ID 17-Year-Old Killed In Crash With Gravel Hauler On I-696 Ramp, Say Speed Was A Factor
FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - Michigan State Police have released the identity of a Taylor teenager who was killed in an accident in Farmington Hills that was likely fueled by speed.
Investigators say 17-year-old Ian Scott Taylor lost control of his car on the I-696 ramp from Grand River to I-275 and crashed into a gravel hauler around 3 p.m. Monday.
Police say their preliminary investigation revealed that the gravel hauler was headed westbound on the I-696 ramp to I-275 when Taylor, driving a Ford Focus, attempted to merge into traffic from Grand River Avenue. Police say Taylor lost control of his car, entered the path of the gravel hauler and was broadsided on the driver's side of his vehicle.
Taylor was declared dead at the scene. The truck driver, who was not found to be at fault, was uninjured.
Police say it appears that speed was a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.
The freeway ramp was closed for about four hours while police investigated the crash scene.
