Police: Homeowner Fights Back, Shoots Intruder
BLOOMFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - Police say a home invasion suspect is on the loose after his partner in crime was shot by a quick-thinking homeowner in Oakland County.
The situation unfolded around 9:30 p.m. Monday in the 1600 block of Bloomfield Place Drive, near West Square Lake and Telegraph roads in Bloomfield Township. The homeowner told police that two men forced their way inside his home and demanded money.
The man told police he agreed to give the intruders all of his money and took one of the suspects into his bedroom. Once in the bedroom, the homeowner grabbed a firearm and shot at the suspect, police said. A struggle ensued and the suspects ultimately fled the residence. The homeowner chased the suspects and fired one more round as they ran away, according to police.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Department later received word that a man in his 20's had showed up at McLaren Hospital in Pontiac with a gunshot wound to his hand. Officers responded to the hospital to interview the man, who was then placed under arrest. The suspect was subsequently transferred to Beaumont Royal Oak Hospital for treatment.
The second suspect in the case has not been located. That suspect is described as a white male in his mid-20's, approximately 6-feet tall and 150 pounds, wearing a dark-colored coat and stocking cap.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248-433-7760.
