Homeless Man Arrested In Roseville Jewelry Store Robbery
ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - A suspected jewelry store robber is in police custody and investigators are checking to see if the man was involved in other armed robberies in the eastern suburbs.
Roseville Police arrested 58-year-old Eddie Stephens Jr. Monday afternoon after he allegedly walked into Rainbow Jewelers on Gratiot near 11 Mile and demanded money and jewelry.
Police say, around 3 p.m., Stephens entered the store and asked to look at some jewelry. As the man was looking at the jewelry he pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the employee and made his demands. He received both money and jewelry, then fled the scene.
A good Samaritan helped police identify Stephens, who told police he is homeless and last lived in Detroit.
When he was arrested, police said Stephens had the cash and jewelry from the robbery in his possession. Officers also found a handgun and some of his clothes in a dumpster.
Detectives say they are looking into other recent incidents, including a jewelry store robbery last week in which gunshots were fired, to see if he is involved.
Tuesday, Judge Catherine Steenland of the 39th District Court set bond at $500,000. A preliminary exam is set for June 29.
