Police: Elderly Man Kept Driving After Killing Teen

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are looking for the driver involved in a deadly hit and run accident.

Nineteen-year-old Glen Hughes was hit and killed by a vehicle Friday night on Gratiot Avenue near McClellan Street on Detroit's east side.

Police say Hughes was walking home from a grocery store when he was struck by a vehicle that kept driving after hitting him.

Hughes was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Detroit police say they found the mini-van that hit Hughes abandoned nearby the scene of the accident. The mini-van had a shattered windshield and was missing the driver's side mirror.

Investigators are searching for the driver who they believe is a 90-year-old man. Officers have been in contact with the man because they have his cell phone number, and are trying to convince him to turn himself in.

An investigation is ongoing.
