Police: Drunk Driver Caused Accident That Injured Highland Park Officer
HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - A man arrested after a crash that injured a Highland Park police officer faces drunk driving and other charges.
John Robert Galvin was arraigned in Highland Park District Court on three felonies including reckless driving and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
The crash at Woodward and Manchester Street early Saturday morning has officer Kamin Bode hospitalized in stable condition.
Highland Park Police Chief Lorenzo Veal II says Bode is in stable condition, but faces additional surgeries.
"This is near and dear to alot of police officers, this could happen to any citizen and again this particular individual who we charged with drunk driving affected and changed her life in an instant," Veal II said.
Investigators say Galvin was driving as fast as 100 miles per hour when the crash happened.
Galvin was also charged with being a habitual offender.
