Police Catch Would-Be Robber At Hospital After Shooting
DETROIT (WWJ) - A man who broke into a west side Detroit business got a little more than he bargained for when an armed employee fought back.
The incident happened around 3 a.m. Wednesday at Motor City Propane on Livernois and Davison avenues, near I-96.
According to police, an employee working overnight saw someone walking through the building with a flashlight. The employee shouted out a warning before firing shots in the direction of the suspect, police said. The suspect, who sustained a gunshot wound, then fled the scene.
Officers responded to the business and started looking for evidence when they discovered the suspect left his burglary tools behind. Meantime, other officers started contacting local hospitals, searching for anyone who might be seeking treatment for a gunshot wound.
Before long, police got a match that the suspect was at Henry Ford Hospital with a gunshot wound to the foot. Officers responded and detained the suspect.
It wasn't immediately clear what the suspect was after, however a pharmacy attached to the propane business might have been the main target.
An investigation is ongoing.
