Police: Carjacking Suspects Targeted Drivers On Detroit Freeways
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are looking for a group of carjacking suspects who targeted two drivers on I-96 early Sunday morning.
In the first case, a man says his car was forced into the freeway wall near Martin Luther King. Four of the suspects got out of a Chrysler 200 with guns, beat him up and then took his car. The victim was able to walk to a gas station and call for help.
About a half hour later, near I-96 and the Davison, a man says the driver of a Chrysler 200 tried to force him off the road. The driver slammed on his brakes, put his car in reverse to get away.
The suspects in that case fired at least one shot.
Michigan State Police Lieutenant Mike Shaw cautions drivers not to react on the road.
"If you come upon individuals that are trying to either make you stop or make you go around them - don't do that - your best option is to slow down immediately contact 911 and get off the freeway," said Shaw.
Troopers are asking that anyone who has information on these two incidents or saw these vehicles during the early morning hours contact MSP at (855) MICH TIP (1-855-642-4847).
