Police: Body Parts Belong To St. Clair Man
Michigan State Police have determined that body parts discovered near Lake Huron in 2008 belong to a St. Clair man who disappeared on his way home from the Port Huron-to-Mackinac Island race 11 years ago.
Detective Sgt. Jerry Briolat of the Petoskey and Cheboygan posts said DNA testing shows the remains belong to Dillion Kent Herzer.
The Cheboygan Daily Tribune says the DNA testing was handled by a Texas laboratory.
Herzer's widow, Ina, tells the Times Herald of Port Huron the finding ``brings closure to a very tragic event.''
The state police say Herzer was 54 when he vanished from the boat in 1999.
After a 22-hour search with a dozen boats and four helicopters, the hunt for Herzer ended, and his death was ruled accidental.
