Police Arrest Drunk Detroit Tigers Fan For Home Invasion
ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) - Police say a 22-year-old Washington Township man was arrested for breaking into homes after his buddies dropped him off in an Oakland County neighborhood following Monday's Detroit Tigers game.
Police were first called to a home in the 3100 block of Quail Ridge, near Adams and Hamlin roads, for a home invasion in progress around 6:40 a.m. Tuesday.
The 87-year-old homeowner told police someone had thrown a large landscaping rock through their window and entered the residence, at which time her husband went downstairs with a gun to investigate. The homeowner told police that the suspect said he was disoriented and asked for help before quickly fleeing the scene.
While gathering information from the victims, officers received information that the suspect was at another nearby residence. When officers arrived at the second home, they were able to take the suspect into custody.
Police say the suspect was "highly intoxicated" and had been at the Detroit Tigers game the night before (the Tigers beat the Houston Astros 7-2). The suspect told police that his friends had dropped him off in the neighborhood, where he had been wandering around all night. Police say it appeared the suspect had also fallen into the nearby Clinton River, due to him being wet and shivering uncontrollably.
The suspect was transported to McLaren Hospital for medical treatment before being lodged at the Oakland County Jail.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. Charges are pending.
