Police: 2-Year-Old Left In Hot Car While Grandmother Shopped At Walmart
ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities in western Michigan say a 2-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after she was found left alone inside a running car outside a Walmart store.
The Kent County Sheriff's Department says a deputy was dispatched to Alpine Township about 5 miles north of Grand Rapids about 6:20 p.m. Saturday and was unable to wake the child, who he said was sweaty and had a red face. The deputy forced his way into the car and woke the girl.
The girl was taken to a hospital with signs of heat exhaustion. She is expected to recover.
The girl's grandmother was found inside the store shopping. The case has been referred to Child Protective Services, and criminal charges have been requested against the grandmother.
In April, a woman left her infant in a hot car outside a strip club where she was auditioning.
WSB-TV (http://2wsb.tv/1VsL0Jo) reports 24-year-old Kelsey McMurtry was auditioning at club in downtown Nashville Thursday while her daughter sat in a locked car with the windows up. A passerby saw her and called police.
