Plymouth Man Charged In Assault On Mom, Girlfriend On Mother's Day
PLYMOUTH (WWJ) - A 25-year-old Plymouth man was arrested after a standoff stemming from a domestic violence assault and shots fired on Mother's Day.
Wayne County prosecutors say Daniel Jacob Howard was at his mother's home, in the 9000 block of Tavistock in Plymouth, on Sunday when he got into an argument with his girlfriend and then physically assaulted both women.
He retrieved a gun and went to the basement where it is alleged that he fired a shot into the wall, pointed the gun at his head and exited the house. Before fleeing the scene in his car, prosecutors say, Howard fired one shot into the air and another one at the back passenger window of his girlfriend's car.
The mother and girlfriend, who'd stayed inside the house, called police and a pursuit began along I-275 and then to I-96 when Howard crashed into the median at Newburg Road
Police said Howard fired another shot into the air and threatened to shoot him self, but was eventually taken into custody after a two-hour standoff with officers.
Howard remains jailed facing multiple charged, including two counts of domestic violence assault and battery, discharge of a firearm in a building and resisting and obstructing police.
An arraignment was scheduled for Monday afternoon before before Judge James Plakas in 35th District Court.
