Plymouth Ice Show Survives Damaging Winds
PLYMOUTH (WWJ) - The Plymouth Ice Festival continued - even though about 13 ice sculptures were damaged by the winds -- as well as some vendor booths and fencing.
Sculptures took the brunt of the hit as winds of almost 50 MPH whipped though Plymouth overnight.
"When the ice is melting and then is frozen very rapidly - it becomes brittle and that coupled with the high winds has caused a lot of damage to the ice. (We) lost about 8 or 10 of the major sculptures and 3 or 4 of our smaller sculptures " said Ice Show Executive Producer Sam Walton.
Many braved the cold temperatures to check out the ice festival. That include Robin Reed of Superior Township, who was there all bundled up.
"What I've seen so far I'm pretty impressed with," said Reed.
A big warming tent is available --- as well as food and drink vendors.
Many people are walking around downtown Plymouth -- undeterred by the cold temperatures.
