Plex Systems Announces 2011 Charitable Partners
Auburn Hills-based Plex Systems Inc. Thursday announced its 2011 Plex Systems Charitable Program partners -- Gleaners Community Food Bank and St. Clair Butterfly Foundation.
Plex Systems asks its employees to select charities the company will support each year, and complements employee efforts with a matching donation program. In addition, Plex Systems hosts several fundraising events throughout the year which include wine tastings and silent auctions.
"Both of these organizations do amazing work and make a real difference to people in our community," said Mark Symonds, CEO and president of Plex Systems. "The Plex Systems family is proud to contribute to these charities and looks forward to helping them fulfill their worthy missions."
For more than 33 years, Gleaners Community Food Bank has been "nourishing communities by feeding hungry people." Last year, Gleaners helped feed more than 456,000 people by distributing 36 million pounds of emergency food to 484 partner soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties. Of every dollar donated, Gleaners uses 96 cents for food and food programs. One dollar provides three meals for a hungry neighbor.
Founded in 2007 by Chip and Lisa St. Clair and based upon his bestselling memoir "The Butterfly Garden," the St. Clair Butterfly Foundation uses the power of creative arts, literature, and overall well-being programs to impact the lives of children facing adversity. Art and music programs, nutrition, gardening, yoga, stress management, and even book clubs provide creative outlets for children and teens whose backgrounds vary from abuse to the sudden death of a parent or loved one, from childhood illness to the struggles of the foster care system. The foundation has touched the lives of nearly 1,000 troubled youths, helping to find a creative outlet that takes them beyond the boundaries of their environment as an alternative to drugs, violence and gangs. Nearly all operating expenses are generously donated in-kind, which allows almost 100 percent of funds to go directly to programs to help children.
