Plea Deal Sought In Congressman Threat Case
Lawyers say they're still trying to possibly reach a plea deal in the case of a Michigan man charged with threatening Michigan congressman Bart Stupak.
Prosecutors and the lawyer for Russell Hesch of West Branch made the disclosure Friday in a filing in federal court in Bay City. They asked the judge to give them more time.
The 73-year-old Hesch is charged with threatening Stupak and his family over the Democrat's vote in favor of a health-care law. He's accused of writing a letter that threatened to paint the Mackinac Bridge with Stupak's blood.
His son, David Hesch of Loveland, Colo., is accused of mailing the letter, but prosecutors dropped a charge against him last month.
