Plea Deal Ends Case Of Flint 6-Year-Old's Death
FLINT (AP) - A Flint man accused of shooting at a car and killing a 6-year-old boy inside has pleaded no contest to manslaughter.
Prosecutor David Leyton tells The Flint Journal that he made the deal because of possible problems with evidence at trial. DaVontrae Benton will face at least five years in prison.
Jonaries Holden was shot and killed in November 2010. Benton was accused of firing a shot into the car during an argument with the boy's father over $60.
The father, Johnny Holden, is upset over the plea deal and wanted to see a murder trial for Benton. He says a five-year prison sentence is a year less than his son's age at the time of his death.
