TROY (WWJ) - Going under the knife may not be at the top of your holiday wish list. However, many Metro Detroiters will unwrap the gift of plastic surgery in less than two weeks.
It's a busy time of year for plastic surgeons for a couple of reasons.
First, because many people have extra time off around the holidays, they get procedures like breast implants or a tummy tuck done, so they have recovery time.
But the other reason is, doctors sell a lot of gift certificates as holiday presents!
But is it a good idea to give a cosmetic procedure for Christmas?
Dr. Tony Youn, with Youn Plastic Surgery in Troy, says the most important thing about giving a cosmetic procedure as a gift is, you have to be sure it's wanted.
"Definitely, if you're thinking of giving your spouse, your girlfriend, your boyfriend plastic surgery as a gift, make sure they ask for it first," Youn said. "because you may not want to open up that can of worms."
Youn said the most popular cosmetic holiday gifts are Botox, breast implants and laser hair removal.
