Plans Pass Senate To Rename Post Office For Mich. Marine Anthony DiLisio
MACOMB TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Plans are moving forward to rename a metro Detroit post office in honor of a U.S. Marine from Michigan who died in 2010 while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan.
The Senate on Wednesday passed a bill to rename a post office in Macomb County as the Lance Cpl. Anthony A. DiLisio Clinton-Macomb Carrier Annex.
U.S. Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow of Michigan joined in backing the bill. The U.S. House previously approved the measure.
Twenty-year-old DiLisio, of Macomb Township, died May 30, 2010 while on patrol in Helmand province, Afghanistan.. He was part of the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
"Lance Corporal DiLisio made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation," Levin said in a statement. "While no act of Congress can fully honor those who give so much, I hope placing his name on this postal facility will provide a permanent reminder of how much he and his generation of men and women in uniform have done for America."
