Plans Move Forward To Seek More Help For Flint's Water System
FLINT (AP) -- Plans are moving forward to seek more help handling problems with Flint's water system.
The Flint Journal reports Genesee County board Chairman Jamie Curtis, supported by the board, declared a state of emergency Monday in Flint.
It follows an emergency declaration by Flint Mayor Karen Weaver, who says she plans to meet this week with Gov. Rick Snyder.
Specifics of the funding request are being worked out, but plans call for dealing with causes and effects of lead contamination. It's also part of the process for requesting federal assistance.
Flint switched from Detroit's water system last year to Flint River water in a cost-cutting move. Residents complained about the taste, smell and appearance, and children were found to have elevated blood-lead levels. Flint returned to Detroit's system in October.
