SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Detroiters will get their first chance Thursday to try Pizza Hut's latest specialty pizza which features hot dog bites baked into the crust of a pizza.
The Hot Dog Bites Pizza, which has been available internationally in Australia, the Middle East and the United Kingdom, will now be available domestically, while supplies last.
"We are committed to bringing more flavor and fun to the pizza category than anyone else, and our new Hot Dog Bites Pizza is an absolutely epic flavor mash-up inspired by two of America's favorite foods," said Jared Drinkwater, Vice President of Marketing, Pizza Hut, in a release.
The large, one-topping pizza will be available for $11.99 and is available with the choice of the traditional or salted pretzel crust flavors. Both crusts feature 28 premium mini-hot dog bites baked into the crust and are served with a free side of French's mustard.
CBS Detroit employees and visitors tried the pizzas Wednesday and gave the following reviews:
- 98.7 Amp promotional staff: "I think I've died and gone to heaven," and "This is the epitome of what will they think of next."
- "It is like a pretzel, with a hot dog. When usually the typical pig in blanket would be crescent roll," said Evan Jenkins, 97.1 The Ticket webmaster. "The pizza is still good. Usually when you have a special crust the pizza lacks a little."
- "This is the snack of real champions with this added hot dog in it," said Emily Gail.
- George Fox thought the pizza needed more sauce and liked the salted, pretzel dough wrapped hot dog bites but found the dough to be "a little bit tough for me, but not bad."
