Pitt Signs G Chris Jones, Transfer Zeigler
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Former Central Michigan guard Trey Zeigler will transfer to Pittsburgh, the school announced Wednesday.
Zeigler averaged 15.6 points per game last season for Central Michigan and was named to the All Mid-American Conference third team. He left the program after his father Ernie Zeigler was not retained as coach last month. Zeigler will petition the NCAA to waive the transfer rules that require a player moving from one Division I school to another to sit out a season.
The Panthers also signed guard Chris Jones from Teaneck (N.J.) High. The 6-foot-5 Jones averaged 21.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals and led the team to a 31-1 record as a senior.
Zeigler and Jones join a recruiting class that already includes 7-foot center Steven Adams from New Zealand and guard James Robinson from Maryland.
